I would totally go for some kind of cell phone interaction with the Port Authority. On Tuesday I was in Oakland and walking towards the bus stop when my bus flew by about twenty minutes before I expected it to. Was my bus super early, or was the previous run super late? I started running contingency plans through my head in a bit of a tizzy. I'll definitely see if I can figure out this CitiWiki stuff.

And... wait, you're that Christina [formerly of the Blurgh]? Yay! Kinda wondered what happened to you two.

"Sometimes I think that could be the city of Pittsburgh’s logo: “We’re here, let’s make the best out of it.” "

Found you in this week's City Paper and have to say, that may be the best summary of what I love about Pittsburgh, flaws and all. Let's write the mayor- I'm sure the new motto will go over like gangbusters :)

what a beautiful post! it reminds me of my "sir william" post--that warm feeling you get when you encounter someone who makes you feel genuinely good inside, someone you see regularly. thank you so, so much for sharing it with us. it put a huge smile on my face.

will stop back again soon!

hi christina,

i had to send this to my husband. he LOVES pittsburgh and the free transportation. even though i know it will make him hate miami even more when he reads it, it is beautifully written + perfectly captures life in the burgh.

Yeah, when we got to Smithfield and 6th, he also said, "Macy's, formerly Kaufmann's." I thought that was pretty cool.

I remember that same 71A driver -- loved him! There was also an older blonde lady who did the same thing, but when going through downtown, she would announce all of the stuff that used to be there, too, which I thought was pretty darn cool. I'm glad to see that someone else is keeping up the tradition.

I never thought that I would miss taking the bus every day, but I met some really great people on those trips between downtown and Oakland and my house. Some scary ones, too, but the good ones were definitely in the majority.

I'm so glad to hear that you'll be working at a job you love -- it can totally change your attitude about so many things, not dreading going to work every day. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them that I love my job, that I look forward to going to work, but it's had such a positive impact on everything else.

Keep up updated on the crazy awesome things!
